The administrators and educators who deal daily with education in the Sabetha school system stress academic achievement.  A foundation of good, solid education is the top priority in the Sabetha schools.

Sabetha has three schools: the elementary with kindergarten through fifth, the middle school with sixth through eighth grade and the high school for grades nine through twelfth.  There are approximately 900 students attending all three schools with a 14 to 1 student to teacher ratio.  For anyone attending overcrowded city schools, this figure seems unbelievable.

Although academic programs are stressed, they are well balanced with extra curricular activities.  The students have available to them, in addition to their regular curriculum, vocational programs, special education for the educationally handicapped and a program for gifted children.

Athletic and physical fitness is also provided with outstanding teams in football, volleyball, basketball, wrestling, track, cross-country, golf and tennis.

An outstanding music program that begins in grade five has resulted in Sabetha students receiving recognition state wide in both vocal and instrumental music.

Preparing the student for the world of work, college or a vocational school is the primary purpose of Sabetha educators.  Nearby colleges and universities are:

Kansas State University in Manhattan (90 miles)
University of Kansas in Lawrence (80 miles)
Washburn University in Topeka (60 miles)
Highland Community College in Highland (40 miles)

Vocational education is offered at Northeast Kansas Vocational School in Atchison and Kaw Valley Vocational School in Topeka.  Northeast Kansas Vocational School has a satellite campus in Sabetha that offers classes in Machining and Industrial Welding.

For adult students, college credit courses are available each semester from six state colleges and universities via the Kansas Regents Network.

Highland Community College offers both credit and non-credit evening classes at the Sabetha High School each fall and winter.
