Swimming Lessons

Lifeguards are certified through the American Red Cross lifeguarding program and give lessons based on Red Cross standards. Signups for lessons will be on May 4, 2024 from 9:00-11:00 am at the Sabetha Aquatic Center, focusing on 6 levels that will be taught in public or private sessions. 

Session 1: 5/28 - 6/7

Session 2: 6/10 - 6/21

Session 3: 6/24 - 7/5 (excluding July 4th)

  • Level 1: Introduction to Water Skills: Students will learn how to feel comfortable in the water and safely enjoy it.
  • Level 2: Fundamentals of Aquatic Skills: Children will learn basic swimming skills.
  • Level 3: Stroke Development: Additional guided practice will help students improve their skills.
  • Level 4: Stroke Improvement: Kids will gain confidence during swim lessons, improve their stroke and gain additional aquatic skills.
  • Level 5: Stroke Refinement: Guidance allows kids to refine their strokes and become more efficient swimmers.
  • Level 6: Swimming and Skill Proficiency: Students will learn to swim with ease and efficiency, and gain the ability to swim smoothly over greater distances.

Besides swim lessons, Mommy & me swim sessions are available along with water aerobics and lap swim. 

Employment Opportunity

The City of Sabetha Aquatic Center is now accepting applications for it's 2023 lifeguard positions. All employees in this position must complete a valid lifeguard training program, waterpark skills, CPR, and first aid through the American Red Cross. Certification is good for two years and must be renewed in order to maintain employment. Must be at least 15 years old to apply.

All applications along with a signed copy of the job description are due by April 3rd, 2024 and can be dropped off at the Sabetha City Hall at 805 Main Street. Lifeguard training for new employees will take place May 17th-19th
